Those were the days

The Swedish photographer Tore Hagman have done a lot of very nice photo books, one in particular is from the Swedish West Coast (Västkust : från Nidingen till Koster), published both in Swedish and English. There is some pictures from the hometown of Skäreläja and skipper Kalle (author of this blog, LLV member 809). And actually, most likely this Vera Skäreläja is on this picture.


And if we take a closer look at the picture there's two interesting boats to have a closer look at. On the docks in front left, there's a wooden boat that belonged to Kalle back then. And on the Marstrand Island, almost in the middle of the picture you'll find "Vera LLV".

 

Keijo, captain and owner of Vera (LLV member 226), bought Vera in the Autumn of 2011. Kalle's father Petter did all the research and helped with the buying. Here's one of the first reports Petter sent back to us in Finland:

Tyvärr glömde jag att fota toan, men den sitter i aktern. Finns holdingtank med tömning antingen i havet eller sugtömning i land, vilket krävs i Finska vatten. Antagligen ok bottenventil och spolvattenventil. Glömde att kolla/fråga.

Det är prydligt med elen tex, men lite gammalt. Två batterier ca 7-8 år gamla. Bytas? För säkerhets  skull.

I aktre delen av motorrummet syns den gamla bottenkranen. Nya slangar. Byta bottengenomföringar till moderna kulventiler. Dvs kylvattenintaget till motorn och pentryavloppet. Bara sötvatten i pentryt.

Motorn går bra. Kan ev behållas eller bytas mot en renoverad lika dan. Då krävs inga omfattande ombyggnader av motorbädd, motorhus eller ny propeller eller axel.

Köket. Går inte att öppna skåpsdörren, slår i motorhuset. Aldrig använt spis eller kylskåp.

Inte godkänd gasolinstallation. Kan ordnas. Förutsättningarna finns.

Bra med badplattform och stege. Fråga barnen Blom. Alla badade från Stures badplattform i Grötviken i somras.

Kapellet ca 10 år, dvs lika gammalt som på vår snipa. Har rengjorts varje år och lämnats på service. Dvs kollat alla sömmar. Läcker inte enl uppgift. Bör bytas på sikt. Vi har beställt ett nytt till nästa säsong.

Sumloggen fungerar inte. Wiren av. Göran D har troligen en ny. På Balladen skippade jag den mekaniska loggen och körde bara med GPS:n. Då får man visserligen bara fart över grund och inte fart genom vattnet och kan följaktligen inte se om det är strömt. En GPS är bra att ha och kostar inte så mycket. Har du förarintyg? Kanske bra att investera i lite kunskap? 

Göran har troligen en kortare gösstake (mast) om det skulle verka modernare.

Skall fråga Göran på torsdag om han kan fixa bottengenomföringar och gasolinstallation samt om vad det kan kosta med byte till en renoverad motor om ni är fortsatt intresserade.

What to do with the fridge space?

In the old kitchen and under the stove we have had a fridge, now we thought of have a cooling box there instead. And the reason why it's a lot of space in there is because the water tank use to be on that side (now we have it in the front, under the beds). We thought we could have a drawer above the cooling box to maximum the space, but if so also have the cooling box itself on a drawer.  Yeah I know, it didn't looked much to the world. But there were still a long way to go before install them into the boat. Now it starts to look better!

Seaborn

And once again we're seaborn! Because of the COVID-19 situation, our Captain Keijo did all the work himself! The crew embarked later in the evening, with lots of joy!

Layers of layers

Just before Christmas 2011 Petter, together with friends, had taken up our new boat, during the Winter it should be inside at one small ship yard's garage. Now when the boat finally was up from the sea we could get a better look at the bottom. Petter wrote: " Kalle! Här kommer lite bilder på båten. Det finns lite att göra i botten för er nästa år. Skall försöka få bort rosten från badstegen när båten kommer in i värmen. Den nya masten är under behandling. Massiv teak, som kommer att oljas. Hej! Petter " We decided at that time it would be better to have a shorter mast. We also realized there would be loads of hard work to get rid of the layers of layers of layers of bottom paint. And after the first Finnish season we realized we needed professional help to get rid of all the old paint!
